We wanted to give all of our loyal readers a preview of what you can get by signing up for our Patreon posts, so we will be uploading one group of Acts Facts a day for the next four days. Each post here will be all the facts we included for one of the chapters in the Book of Acts. Today's preview comes from Acts Chapter . Enjoy
Historical Facts: This is the first mention of Hellenistic Jews (1). There was a perception that they were being marginalized and neglected because they had not been born in Judea. This led to the first conflict in the early church, resolved by the appointment of young men from the next generation to help.
Character Facts: Stephen was a man of faith and able to do miracles (8). He helped to spread God’s word and the assist in the conversion of disciples (7). Also included in this group would be Phillip the evangelist, a man who would go on to spread the gospel to Samaria, and Nicolas, a man some have said lead one of the first diasporas from the faith (5).
Scriptural Facts: The Apostles used a method that Moses implemented on the advice of his father-in-law when they appointed the young men (Acts 6:3-5, Exodus 18:17-26). This allowed them to stay focused on spreading the gospel while also opening a pathway to involvement for deserving people from the next generation.
Spiritual Truth: When people’s feelings get hurt or offense arises, we cannot return offense with offense. They may not be right, but God is giving us an opportunity to grow closer together. Find ways to correct their perception. Also, instead of trying to control things, we should look for ways to involve the next generation when the opportunity arises. Starting people who have built up their reputation in the church with a modest role could lead to great things down the road.
