We return once more to the Gospel of Matthew, this time focusing on the central figure of this book. Matthew lays out the life of Christ in great detail. In this gospel alone, more is said about Christ than has been written about the lives of some kings, emperors and other religious figures. Matthew's detailed and honest account of Christ's life lends to the certainty of Christ's existence and the truth of his purpose and plan. Where we will focus today is on the specific events, actions and utterances of Christ in Matthew. Each gospel has its own nuances and unique items. Matthew is no different and in those unique items we find greater understanding about this particular gospel. Let's dive in...
We thought we could do it all in one post, but this gospel has too much to cover. As such, you'll be getting Pt. 1 today, Pt.2 tomorrow, and hopefully the Podcast on Friday! Today, we will cover Matthew's origin story for Jesus and the life of Joseph! By the way, we've got a book on the first part of that sermon. You can get it in physical and digital copy if you want to help us out. Those links will open in a different tab, so don't worry about having to navigate back. We'll be right here while you get your copy of The Way.
Got it? Good. Let's begin...
Four men. Four different backgrounds. Four unique perspectives. One message and purpose. The writers of the gospel are four fascinating individuals that undertook one of the most important and daunting tasks in history: cataloging the earthly ministry of God Almighty robed in flesh. They told the story of Jesus with honesty, respect and passion. However, their good news has often been maligned and dismissed as propaganda, falsehoods and revisionist history. This series, The Men Who Wrote The Gospels, will work to debunk those claims.
How will we accomplish this? We will look at who these men were and the manner in which they specifically wrote about Jesus. By looking at the men who wrote the gospels and their perspective, we will understand the sincerity and the truth behind their words and accounts of Jesus Christ. We will do two weeks on each gospel. The first week will be a profile of the individual who wrote the gospel and his relationship to Jesus. This will allow us to clearly see each man's opinion of Christ. The second week we will focus on the unique content and tone of the gospel that man wrote. These unique stories and the manner in which they were delivered will further reveal the perception these men had of Jesus. It is our belief that by the end of this series our readers will have a greater understanding of not only the truth of the gospels, but what makes them so powerful and real in representing the glory of Christ. Our Compass Page will have all of the content this time around. Each entry in the series will be posted on Wednesday starting next week. Take a look at the specific schedule to prepare for the series. February 15: Profile of Matthew (The man in need of redemption) February 22: The unique message of Matthew March 1: Profile of Mark (From abandoning to embracing) March 8: The unique message of Mark March 15: Profile of Luke (The outsider turned insider) March 22: The unique message of Luke March 29: Profile of John (what closeness reveals) April 5: The unique message of John We will also have Podcasts that will make their way to our YouTube channel as well. These will occur every Friday and will recap each lesson. We can't wait to share our thoughts with you all, both in written and audio/visual format. God Bless and Keep Searching! |
