Discovering Your Appetite For GodWe all have appetities and desires. We pursue the things we want, building a kingdom of experiences and memories that will represent us long after we are gone from this life. It is with this in mind that we must focus ourselves on the right appetites and desires. Jesus told us we are blessed when have an appetite and desire for righteousness. Today we look to a man who had this appetite and desire for the right things of God: The Pursuit of A Mantle Elisha wasn't expecting to change his life. It was just an ordinary day for him, plowing in his field. He had no idea his destiny was just around the corner. He didn't even see Elijah at first. There was no profound statement or anouncement made. No great parade welcoming him into the brotherhood of prophets. Just a silent man who threw his mantle on Elisha and kept walking. We don't know if Elisha knew who Elijah was, but he certainly knew what the mantle represented. It was a garment only worn by prophets in those days. To have it touch you meant something important. It meant you were called to follow the man of God. The voice of The Almighty. Elisha didn't hesitate and he followed Elijah until the mantle was finally passed onto him. That shows a desire and appetite for God and his ways that surpasses all other things. It's the kind of desire and appetite we must have if we want to see great things done in us. The Journey Begins With an Appetite and Desire We never know when the Lord might call upon us to follow Him. Jesus showed up at the most inopportune times for most of his followers. Some were in the middle of their work days (Matt 4:18, 19; Mark 2:14). Some were in the middle of crisis (John 8:3-11). Some were preparing to terrible things (Acts 9:1-6). When these people were confronted with following Christ, regardless of their position in God, they chose to follow him. We don't have to be the most righteous person to get in line with God. We don't have to be perfect or in a position of ministry or influence. All we require to follow Jesus, is a desire and an appetitie for Him and the things He has to teach us. If we can get an appetite and desire for Christ, we can truly start our path in becoming what he wants us to be and do. DiscoveryRead the rest of Elisha's story.
