Lesson 9: The Holy Ghost and Conclusion In the final week of LOGOS, Pastor and Larry Clark faced down the concept of tongues how it relates to salvation. Once again, they used Search For Truth but also delved into several other Bible Studies and commentaries in order to provide a broader and more comprehensive view of this important issue. So what did we find out from them and the Word of God? Much like the last study, Pastor and Brother Larry went back into the book of Acts showing where the Holy Ghost was poured out and the sign of tongues being present. It happened explicitly in Acts 10 and was implicit in the recording of Acts 8 as Simon the sorcerer wanted to buy the power of the Holy Ghost from the apostles. This after he had seen signs, miracles and wonders performed by Philip. Pastor also referenced Acts 2 and how it was the fulfillment of Christ's commission in Luke 24. This was great in that it tied the words of Jesus to the actions of the Apostles. This meant the statement of Matthew 28:19 is equivalent to the statement in Acts 2:38. One final thought that Pastor drove home was that the Apostles were trusted by Jesus. When Christ was being interrogated by the Sanhedrin in John 18, they asked him about his followers and the doctrine he taught. Christ answered both questions with the same resounding answer: Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. (John 18:21) This showed that even before his death, Jesus had supreme confidence that his disciples knew his message and would be able to answer for it. This when Peter was still about to deny Christ and all but one of his disciples would be absent from the cross. In spite of their shortcomings in courage and boldness, Christ was confident that they had His message. One area not mentioned in tonight's study-and this is the only area of omission we've found in our reviews thus far-is that Romans 10:13, a scripture used by other denominations to present alternative forms of salvation than being filled with the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues, is a direct quote by Paul of Peter in Acts 2. Had this been mentioned, I think it would have tied the ministry of Paul back to the message of Peter and Jesus and shown them all in concert together. Quotes and Notes: Pastor did talk a bit about the identity of God and used John 14-16 as his reference. It's near the end of the study and worth a listen/look. "You receive the Holy Ghost only after you believe" Brother Larry referencing Paul's message in Acts 19. "If the apostles wanted to, they could have escaped martyrdom and ridicule. But they all suffered for the message they believed in." Pastor Anthony on how strongly the apostles guarded and believed in the message Christ gave them. "When I speak with tongues, the power of Christ is inside of me already." Brother Larry on tongues as a sign of the Holy Ghost. "Throughout the Bible the tongue is talked about as being evil and destructive. Speaking with tongues tames the tongue." Pastor Anthony on the power of the Holy Ghost. We hope you enjoyed this week's review of LOGOS. If you missed watching the lesson, you can watch it here. There's also a handout you can download on the same page. Tell us your thoughts on the lesson in the comments. This is the last week of LOGOS, but it will return after Because of The Times. We hoped you enjoyed our expanded look at LOGOS and hope it has helped supplement the great lessons that Brother Larry and Pastor Anthony put forth. LOGOS: A Bible Study Experience Lesson 9
